Basketball Drills For Post Players

The freedom, enjoyment and delight people derive from the game of basketball is not overrated. The truth to this, however, is that a lot of people need to learn quite a bit more if they want to get the most out of basketball. Read on and learn about what makes basketball a great sport.

Make sure you are dribbling the right way. When you dribble, only use your fingertips instead of your palms. This method gives you much more control of the ball. You should be dribbling the ball at your side instead of in front of your body. The ball should always be dribbled at waist level. Keep your eyes up.

Practice your layup shot often. Up to eighty percent of the baskets attempted in a game are layups. It's critical to practice running towards the basket at full speed and following up with a good jump and smooth shot. Perfecting this skill will enable you to get to the rim effortlessly during a game.

Make sure to practice catching passes. When practicing make sure you drill yourself to catch errant throws as well as picture perfect passes. In the heat of the game, not every pass is going to hit the bulls-eye. You and your team mates will be happier if you (and they) are more versatile.

Free throws are as mental as physical. You can train your body to complete the motions of making a free throw, but if you are mentally prepared to fail, you will. Relax and focus on the basket; this will help you succeed.

Your fingers should always be spread out when handling the ball. That will ensure that it doesn't get away from you as you hold it. Your palm should not be touching the ball. When you're shooting or passing, the only place the ball should touch your hand is on your fingers.

You need to take a charge anytime you can. Letting the other guy run into you stops the game without having to use a time out, and adds another four to the opponent's total. Perfecting this play can really give you an advantage on the court.

Find out what your teammates like most about how you play? What do you need to focus in on and practice more? Maybe you are nimble or you are reliably there to support them. Find out what others think your natural abilities are, and be certain to keep developing those skills.

You need to mess with your opponent's head. Get them outside their comfort zone. Stay aggressive. You don't want the defense choosing your plays so to speak. If you let them, they'll totally take the control from you. Rather, you move first so that you interfere with their rhythm.

If you wish to do free throw shots reliably, always do the exact same thing before making each shot. This could mean dribbling twice, shaking out your head to loosen your neck or whatever else makes you comfortable. Just make your routine quick, so that it can be consistent, and your body is going to remember just how to nail free throws following your ritual.

The thrills and excitement that basketball hold for legions of fans worldwide is tough to match. People new to the sport, may be confused if they don't understand all the rules and subtleties. Use the skills and practice habits you read about here to take your game to the next level. You can be a real "baller."
